Solution 1

This problem can be due to autorun.inf file present in the drive or corrupted registry.
This problem was Ravmon Virus Removal Tool solved using this option Disable AutoPlay on All drives

Ravmon Virus Removal Tool In the earliest stage it was developed using batch files. But it was successful only when you do have scanned your system with Anti-Virus before running the tool.
In the next stage I configured it to run using Windows Script Host (VB Scripting). But there was no GUI at all instead of a Setup. While scripting in VB I forgot that autorun.inf and ravmon.exe were read-only and required to remove their attribute before deleting in the script. So users had a lot problem.
Making the way to Improvement and with the help of Irish Dave (A person who complained about the tool) I developed the version that does not need an Anti-Virus Scan.
Now in Version 3.0 or later it is compeletly GUI based. I have added some more options in it and it has become an all in one tool for disinfecting Ravmon Virus and some more problems caused by different viruses.
It has been downloaded approximately 30000 times. A Great success for me.

Now I have added the option to
Enable Run
Restore All Folder Options Settings (Windows XP only)
Disable AutoPlay on All drives (To prevent Viruses from entering into your PC while you plug-in Flash Drive). Also if you have My Computer Drives Opening Problem this can be solved with this option
You can see these features while you click Restore Windows Default SettingsNote : The different Options like Enable Task Manager will not work until the Task Manager is actually disabled.

Orkut Büyükkökten is a Turkish software engineer who developed the social networking service called Orkut while working at Google. He developed Orkut as an independent project while working at Google, the outgrowth of a company policy whereby all employees at Google can spend 20% of their time working on personal interests. Google follows the principle where each employee can divide his time in 70:20:10. 70% on his/her core business, 20% on matters of their interest but related to Google's core business of search and 10% time on absolutely anything.

While previously working for Affinity Engines, he had developed a similar system, InCircle, intended for use by university alumni groups. In late June 2004, Affinity Engines filed suit against Google, claiming that Büyükkökten and Google based Orkut on inCircle code. The allegation is based on the presence of 9 identical bugs in Orkut that also exist in InCircle.
Originally from the Turkish city of Konya, Büyükkökten obtained a B.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering and Information Science from Bilkent University in Ankara, and earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University. His research at Stanford focused on Web search and efficient PDA usage.

s promised, Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) was released a few minutes ago, and it's my deepest pleasure to introduce you guys to the new features to be found in this version of Ubuntu (which is based on the GNOME desktop environment) and also to the features from Kubuntu (same as Ubuntu, but based on the popular KDE desktop environment).

I have to admit that I prefer Kubuntu over Ubuntu because it's based on KDE (K Desktop Environment) and I am a sucker for KDE. The final version of Windows Live Messenger 8.5 has been leaked (via mess.be) and is available for download. Microsoft has been cooking Window Live Messenger 8.5 to accompany the second wave of Windows Live releases scheduled for November.

This summer, the Redmond company debuted the second phase in the evolution of its cloud operating system. Consequently, new betas of the products and services reunited under the Windows Live brand umbrella began being available.

In early September, Microsoft unveiled the unified installer for Windows Live, and a plethora of new beta releases including Windows Live Messenger, Photo Gallery, Mail, OneCare Family Safety and Writer. Windows Live Messenger 8.5 debuted into beta in May this year. In September, Microsoft evolved the instant messaging client from Beta 1 to Beta 2 stage, and by the middle of the month was announcing that the second wave of Windows Live downloads will be made available in early November.

Well, there still is no official word from the Redmond company as to the finalization of Windows Live Messenger 8.5, but the IM client has been leaked and is available for download. At this point, it is clear that the official version from Microsoft will soon follow, but the company failed to provide any details in this respect.

As you can see from the adjacent screenshots, Windows Live Messenger 8.5, evolved from Beta, has moved from Build 8.5.1288.816 to Build 8.5.1302.1018. So far, there are little distinctions between the Beta 2 version of the instant messaging client and the final release. Windows Live Messenger 8.5 is the successor of Windows Live Messenger 8.1 made available in January with full Windows Vista support. Although both editions of the IM client are designed with Vista in mind, only Windows Live Messenger 8.5 is tailorfitted for Microsoft's latest operating system.

How to access Bebo, Myspace that are blocked at school ?

Following our previous trick on accessing restricted websites that are blocked by your employer, college or government, there have been several requests from college students and office workers asking for workarounds to access social networking websites that are blacklisted.

The most common websites that are blocked in schools include Bebo, MySpace, Hi5, Xanga, Orkut, Facebook and in some cases, Youtube. We share a couple of options to bypass the internet ban and they includes using proxy servers, special mobile websites and screen sharing software:

Trick A: Most solutions to unblock websites suggest using web proxies to bypass restrictions. Open Directory has a comprehensive list of public anonymous web-based proxy servers that you may want to try. [How proxies work ?]

But chances are that your school administration has already blocked access to most proxy servers as well. In that case, you have some more options:

Trick B: Surf the web using Mowser, a new service that's free and converts any website into a mobile phone friendly format. The other option that may help access blocked website is Bitty Browser, a miniature web browser that is meant for embedding inside other web pages. Another solution may be Google Mobile Search.

Trick C: Finally, a option that will always work provided you have your sister or mom at home to help you - Use a screen sharing software like Microsoft Tahiti, CrossLoop or Yuuguu.

Ask someone at home to accept your screen sharing invitation request and browse the web at school using your home computer. This will enable you to access any website or instant messenger like Skype or Yahoo from the school or work computer. You may also try remote control software that comes with Win XP Pro instead of screen sharing apps to access restricted sites.

If Google Talk is blocked by your employer, use the Firefox trick and connect with Google Talk buddies outside the office firewall.

Blocking access to undesirable Web sites has been a common government tactic but China, Iran, Saudi Arabia are believed to extend greater censorship over the net than any other country in the world.

Most of the blocked or blacklisted sites in Saudi Arabia are about sex, religion, women, health, politics and pop culture. They even block access to websites that sell bathing suits. In China, webites containing sexually explicit content are blocked plus sites on sensitive topics such as Tibet, Taiwan, and dissident activity.

Other popular sites that are often blocked in offices, school and workplaces are Google News, Typepad, Orkut, ebay, Blogger blogs, YouTube, Blogger, Facebook, MySpace, Pandora, Bebo, Photobucket, Yahoo! Messenger, AOL AIM, Flickr, last.fm, etc.

There are however always legitimate reasons to bypass the internet filters and visit the blocked websites. The following methods will help you access blocked websites in school, college, office or at home.

Approach 1: There are websites Anonymizer who fetch the blocked site/ page from their servers and display it to you. As far as the service provider is concerned you are viewing a page from Anonymizer and not the blocked site.

Approach 2: To access the blocked Web site. type the IP number instead of the URL in the address bar. But if the ISP software maps the IP address to the web server (reverse DNS lookup), the website will remain blocked.

Approach 3: Use a URL redirection service like tinyurl.com or snipurl.com. These domain forward services sometimes work as the address in the the url box remain the redirect url and do not change to the banned site.

Basically, you have Google translate your page from English to English (or whatever language you like). Approach 7: Anonymous Surfing - Browse the internet via a proxy server. A proxy server (or proxies) is a normal computer that hides the identity of computers on its network from the Internet. Just visit the proxy server website with your Web browser and enter a URL (website address) in the form provided.

How to dual-boot Vista with XP - step-by-step guide with screenshots

Scenario: You want to install Vista on your PC alongside your XP installation, on the same drive. You have already installed XP. (If you installed Vista first, see our other tutorial on How to dual-boot Vista and XP - with Vista installed first.)

Tutorial Summary: We're going to use the DISKPART utility on the Vista DVD to shrink the Windows XP partition on the hard disk and create enough space for an installation of Vista. We'll then install Vista and use the EasyBCD utility to modify Vista's bootloader to get XP loading properly.

This is an updated tutorial,based on our first Windows XP/Vista dual-booting workshop. The main difference is that we're covering using both the latest version of GParted and DISKPART to shrink the Windows XP partition.

DISKPART can shrink NTFS partitions and it's certainly the more convenient option, but on some systems using DISKPART to shrink the volume will fail, with an vague "Access is denied" error.

This may have something to do with different disk controllers, as this was a problem on the AcerPower test system which has a SATA hard drive, but not on the VMWare system which uses a virtual IDE controller. So we'll cover both processes

EasyBCD has also been updated since the first tutorial was written.

This tutorial was tested on a VMWare Workstation 6 virtual machine and an AcerPower SK50.

Get Started - Using GParted

We assume that before you start this tutorial, you have backed up the drive (partitions and data) that will host the two operating systems.

Your first step will be to modify the Windows XP system partition to make space for Vista using GParted

The GParted Live CD ISO is available here – burn it to CD and boot the system from the disc. The version we used was 0.3.4-7.

Boot the Linux machine from the GParted LiveCD. Depending on your system, you should just need to select the auto-configuration boot option.

Ubuntu & Vista - GParted

During boot, press Enter twice when prompted to select the keymap and language settings.

When the main GUI loads, right-click on the main Windows XP NTFS partition (depending on your setup, probably /dev/hda1) and select Resize/Move.

Use the slider to reduce the partition size and free up enough room to instal Vista (at least 10GB) and click Resize/Move.

The changes haven’t actually been made, they’ve just been scheduled to run. To commit the changes and resize the partition, click Apply. GParted will ask to confirm the changes – hit OK and away you go.

Get Started - Using DISKPART

Boot the machine from the Vista DVD. Select the appropriate language and then "Install Now".

On the produt key page, press SHIFT + F10 to launch a Windows PE 2.0 command window. Then type in DISKPART and press enter to get into the DISKPART utility.

Now type in LIST VOLUME - this gives you a readout of the volumes available on the system. Select the main Windows XP volume (probably Volume 0) by typing in SELECT VOLUME 0.

Now type in SHRINK. Vista will reduce the size of Volume 0 (the selected Volume) by around 50%.

Once that is done, type in EXIT and EXIT again to get back to the Vista installation window.

Now Install Vista
If you used the GParted LiveCD to shrink the XP partition, you'll need to reboot the system from the Vista install DVD. If you've used DISKPART then you just need to continue the installation.
Once the install gets to the install location, there should be at least two options: a partition marked as Primary and unallocated space. Select the unallocated space and click Next. The install will then commence.

The Vista boot manager will take over the system completely, and Windows XP effectively loads via Vista. It’s all pretty seamless though, and you shouldn’t encounter any technical problems.

Modify Vista's Bootloader

Once Vista is installed and the system reboots, you’ll be presented with a boot menu with two options: “Microsoft Windows Vista” and “An Earlier Version of Windows”.

This is perhaps a little bit bland, so you’ll probably want to change it. Here’s where one of the new features of Vista comes in, and it’s not so terrific. In Windows XP if you want to modify the bootloader, just right-click on My Computer, select Properties, go to the Advanced Tab, and click Settings under Startup and Recovery, then click Edit. This opens a local file – boot.ini. It’s just a standard text file and you can change pretty much anything. Unfortunately it’s not that easy in Vista – you can still navigate to the Startup and Recovery settings, but all you can do is select which operating system is the default and modify the timeout settings.

To edit Vista’s boot manager you have to use the command line BCDEDIT utility. To access BCDEDIT, run the Command Window as an administrator and type in BCDEDIT.

Unfortunately BCDEDIT isn’t an easy tool to come to terms with, especially as it’s purely command line-driven. So, a great tool to use here is EasyBCD by NeoSmart Technologies. EasyBCD offers a GUI frontend to BCDEDIT, and makes life much easier.

Once Vista is installed, call up the browser and navigate to the EasyBCD download page - download, install and launch the application.

To configure the bootloader go to “Configure Boot” – you’ll see the two entries, for XP and Vista. To change the name of Windows XP, just overwrite “Earlier Version of Windows” with “Windows XP” and click Save Settings.

Reboot the system and the changes are visible. You have a dual-booting Vista and XP system. That's all there is to it.

Open up Windows Explorer and there’s two hard drives – the primary disk running Vista and the secondary disk with XP installed. Restart the system and load up Windows XP, and the XP disk is now the primary, with the Vista partition running on the secondary D: drive

If you decide that dual-booting Vista and XP is not for you, EasyBCD lets you wind back the clock.

All you have to do is remove Vista’s boot manager – go to “Manage Bootloader”, select “Uninstall the Vista Bootloader” and then “Write MBR”. Restart the machine and that’s it – the XP boot loader is the only one left on the system and XP loads. You can then delete the Vista partition and use GParted to re-extend the partition to take up the entire disk, or the Extend command in Vista DISKPART.
